Author:Bhaktivedanta Vidyapitha

Summary

In this session, the instructor outlines the BTI Shastri course structure for Bhagavad Gita study, including exam formats (closed/open book and MCQs) and the division of the Gita into three modules. He explains the Gita’s origin as Krishna speaking to Arjuna on the battlefield, emphasizing that while the dialogue is contextual, its core aim is heart transformation, devotion, and the cultivation of dharma. The lecturer introduces the five overarching topics of the Gita (who I am, who is God, the nature of the world, time, and how to act) and presents the metaphor of the Gita as a jewel-box with Karma Yoga in the first six chapters, Bhakti Yoga in the middle six, and Jnana/Ashtanga Yoga in the final six. He also shares a devotional anecdote about a devotee reading the Gita, highlighting submissiveness to the Guru and love for Krishna as essential outcomes of study.

[Music] om [Music] om om om [Music] [Music] s [Music] Krishna [Music] Krishna he Krishna GOP [Music] [Music] kishna [Music] Krishna harrish h kishna kishna kishna h h [Music] h har Krishna I welcome all the devotees for this uh bhagavat Gita course and bti shastri course I can can see several devotees here they have come for full bti shastri course and some devotees also came to study only bhagat Gita and some devotees although they have shastri degrees they ready they read bti shastri they read bhag Gita nicely still they have come here to revise uh these books so I really uh thank of you for your enthusiasm and eagerness to study bhagat Gita so uh we have planned this whole bti shastri program for one year and bhagad Gita will go for about 7 months and uh I'll be spending on an average around 3 hours per chapter of bhagat Gita and and second chapter being very long ninth chapter being very deep 18th chapter being a very elaborate uh uh summary of the teachings of bhagat Gita I'll spend more time on these chapters but on an average we'll spend about three three and a half hours per chapter depending on the size of the chapter so in this way we will cover bhagat Gita in about 7 months and uh weekly we are having two classes uh so weekly we'll cover one chapter each class about one and half hours and bhagat Gita has 18 chapters and we can divide this bhagat Gita into three sections so the first six chapters one module middle six chapters another module the last six chapters third module so after we complete our discussion on the first six chapters mean first module we'll have an exam and after second module we'll have another exam third module we have another exam okay this is how our structure course curriculum would be and uh these are closed book exams and there will be open book exams and closed book exams are mainly based on memorization uh how much you remember what you have studied and open book exams are mainly based on understanding how much you have understood and assimilated and for those who have enrolled only for bhagat Gita not for the entire bti shastri you don't have to write this closed book exams and open book exams you will have a McQ test after every chapter once the chapter is complete we'll send an McQ test you can just read that uh you know attempt that if you want to write other exams also you're welcome but McQ test is sufficient for only bhagat Gita certificate course so now uh let us enter our discussion on bhagat Gita bhagat Gita is one of the most important and foundational spiritual literatures available for the humanity and bhagavat Gita is very special because it is directly spoken by the Supreme Lord Krishna Okay so this is a scripture that is available to the humanity which is directly coming from the Lotus lips of the Supreme Lord Krishna so understanding bhagat Gita is considered very foundational for our spiritual life so before we enter into the details of bhagat Gita the chapters of bhagat Gita the structure of bhagat Gita and the themes of bhagat Gita let me tell you one small story so lot of Krishna appeared in this kuga in the form of Sri chaitan Maha pru so he his purpose of appearing as San maharu is to practice bii himself to perform B Yoga himself and to teach everyone how to performi right so here God Appears in the form of a devote to teach all of us how to be a devote how to practice biti so that's the purpose of Lan's Incarnation one of the purposes so Lan Maha pru he went on a tour during his past times as a sasi he went on a tour and eventually he came to a place called sangam in South India so in sangam there is this rangat Swami Temple there he met a Brahman uh this Brahman was reading bhagat Gita so he has bhagat Gita and he just reading very calmly and while reading he was also crying so many brahmanas there they used to mock him ridicule him joke with him why because he's actually an illiterate Brahman he doesn't know how to study properly he's just opening the book and then trying to read something and he's unable to read what it is so uh people were just joking with him but he is just continuing to read as much as he could manage to read and he's crying while reading soan mahu went to this Brahman and asked him sir what are you doing he said I'm reading bhag Gita then he asked why are you crying then this Brahman replied my dear Lord I'm illiterate person I don't know how to read bhagat Gita but because my Guru instructed me to read bhag Gita I'm reading so when I read bhagat Gita I see Krishna uh as a chariot driver of Arjuna okay you see on the C page of bhag you see this so Krishna is driving the Chariot of Arjuna so as soon as this brah opens bhag Gita and then sees he just remembers Krishna driving The Chariot of Arjun and he becomes overwhelmed how much the lord loves his devotees so the Lord is playing the menial role of being a servant of his servant a driver of his servant Arjun so just by remembering the quali of Krishna I am being so overwhelmed out of love for Krishna tears automatically flow from my eyes that's I'm cry so Maha pru was very impressed with this Brahman answer he said uh although apparently you're illiterate you're unable to study properly you're not a scholar others are mocking you still you have these two great qualities number one submissiveness to Guru number two love for Krishna so he's reading bhagat Gita out of his obedience for his Guru Guru instructed him to read he's trying to read to the best of his ability and secondly uh he developed with great love for Krishna ultimately after after reading all the scriptures especially bhagad Gita we are meant to love God when we love God we love everyone because everyone is is a child of God right so love of God means loving God and loving those who love God loving those who are trying to love God and loving Those whom God loves okay means all his children all the living beings so uh he developed love for Krishna and he's not having any hatred towards those people who are trying to mock him and joke around with him and he has submissiveness to Guru so the point here is Lord who appreciated this Brahman and he said that my dear Brahman whatever you understood from bhag Gita constitutes the essence of bhag Gita you are an authority in the reading of bhagat Gita whatever you know constitutes the real purpose of bhagat Gita and the Lord embraced him mahu just embraced him so bhagavat Gita is not a story book it's a deeply philosophical book you don't find any stories here there are 700 slokas in this book you don't find any stories there any Past Times any anecdotes so you only find a lot of philosophy lot of philosophical discussion so sometimes people who understand bhagat Gita would become great Scholars but uh becoming scholar is not the end product of reading bhagat Gita scholarship would be a insignificant byproduct of bhagat Gita study but the end product is transformation of heart development of Love Krishna writes in Krishna speaks in bhag he doesn't write he speaks he gives big lists of qualities in the 12th chapter of bhag Gita and in the 13th chapter of bhag Gita [Music] like that he gives several uh uh qualities that make us dear to him that a devote must cultivate so along with cultivating knowledge we need to cultivate character so development of the good character should be one of the end products of bhagat and ultimately developing love for the Lord and and compassion for all living beings that should be the end product of reading for submissive and respectful to Guru and all living beings that's that's the product of bhag Gita scholarship yes you may become familiar with Karma Yoga Yoga Yoga and all the eight steps of asanga yoga you may understand the nties of Karm akarma akarma in karmaarm all these activities you may understand we to read that in the next s months but but the main output that we need to attain after reading bhag is transformation of character love for the Lord humility okay so with this background let me just speak a few words on the structure of bhagavat Gita then we'll start first chapter so there is one great commentator on bhagavat Gita wnav aara his name is vishan chakari takur so this vishan chakti takur compared bhagat Gita to be a beautiful Jewel box a jum studed Jewel box okay so there are 18 chapters in bhagat Gita so the first six chapters they are compared to the lead of they compared to the bottom portion of the Box okay and the last six chapters they are compared with the lead of the box and the middle six chapters they are compared to the jewel within the Box okay so bhagat Gita is compared to a jewel studed box jumped je box and the first six chapters that talk predominantly about Karma Yoga are the bottom portion of the Box the last six chapters that talk about yoga predominantly they are the Le of the box and inside the Box the jewel is B Yoga so B Yoga is the most essential message of bhagat Gita so bhagat Gita talks about yoga what is yoga the common understanding of yoga is some exercise so let us do some exercise yeah call yoga is exercise but actually the word yoga means to connect to link yoga is to link our Consciousness with the Supreme Lord with God so if you try to connect our Consciousness with God through our Karma through our activities it is called Karm yoga and that is the main subject matter of the first six chapters of bhagat Gita mainly from second chapter to sixth chapter okay the first part of bhagat the main subject matter is to link our Consciousness with God through Karma through our activity and if we try to link our Consciousness with God through Gana or knowledge analysis it is called n yoga and if we try to connect our Consciousness to the Lord with meditation then it is called danana yoga which is also called ashang yoga but if you try to connect our Consciousness with Krishna through devotion and devotional Serv is called and B Yoga is the essential process of bhagat Gita and bi includes other three things also so we saw four kinds of yogas Karma Yoga Yoga Yoga Yoga Krishna speaks about these four yogas right so now bi is the Supreme because bi or devotion includes karmana and as Orana so if you have Devotion to Krishna you do Karma you work for Krishna and you have knowledge you have you have knowledge for kishna and you also doana meditation Onna right so includes all three so in bhagat Gita we see bti is glorified in the middle portion andana predominantly in the last section and karma in the first section and as a part of karma you also find so these are this is the structure of bhagat Gita and the essential message of bhagat Gita is most important message okay so bhagad is considered the crown jewel of all knowledge [Music] and now in the let me show the able to see the screen so bhagat Gita is bhagavat Gita means bhagavan sang song is the Supreme Lord the possessor of all opulences he sang a song the song of God is BH so you don't find people celebrating birthdays of songs but the birthday of this song sung by God Krishna is celebrated every year as would you like to recite shlokas generally it's our tradition to wherever you are you can decide but I'll unmute one person children generally get prer so we will recite every single of bhagat in this course every single we will recite 700 Shas and we will discuss the meaning of every single and we'll discuss the sent points of purpose important purpose s LMI sh [Music] [Music] one shastra one scripture is sufficient that isra this this is a from the mahat so the spoken byi Krishna that one sh understand one there is only one Lord that is we can just ch one one holy name that is krishna's name even one activity sufficient which is which is to render service to that so this is mahat so although bhagat Gita was spoken in the context of War on the battle field of kurra we Warrior Arjun the content of bhag is life you see out of 700 shlokas of bhag Gita we hardly find 10 speaking about yudha speaking about war so bhag is not a scripture not a instruction spoken by the Supreme Lord to inspire a fighting spirit in Arjuna basically Arjuna is acting as an instrument in krishna's hands so that all of us will get profound knowledge and understanding of life so Krishna is speaking to all of us through Arjuna by keeping Arjuna in confusion right the content of bhagat Gita is life how to live life the context is why because people are very intrigued people are very curious and a lot of suspense they're very curious to know what's happening what's going to happen in this war so when people's attention levels are so high then Krishna gives very important teachings that relevant for our lives so the five uh important topics of bhagat Gita are these three this one ja who am I two iswar who is God three PR what is this world what is this nature four kala what is time five Karma how to act so these are the five universally relevant topics that embody the teachings of BH so as we are progressing in our study we can see these five topics coming at in various chapters of bhag you will read so I already mentioned this G is compared to a je studed jum studed Jewel box where the first six chapters are Karma Yoga last last six middle six within the Box they describe so now let's see the background in which bhagat is spoken as you know hastinapur kingdom is ruled by the Kuru Dynasty so dtra and pandu Maharaj so these two are brothers but unfortunately pandu Maharaj died pandu had two wives kti and madri and kti had three sons they area and Arjun and madri had two sons s but unfortunately Pand Maharaj died and mad also died along with pandu Maharaj so kti became the caretaker of all this five children kti always considered that she had five children not three children right so she considered that she had five sons and she always protected and maintained them so Andra had hand 100 Sons headed by duryodhan and duryodhan by nature is very selfish greedy arrogant and elious so now duryodhan always wanted to eliminate this five pandas and even when bishma Bea was a small child duryodhan and Par tried to kill Bea with poison and they also tried to kill the pandas and by setting fire to their house in this way they did many atrocities and in a gambling match they took away their Kingdom and even disrobed mean attempted to disr Dadi of course Krishna is there to protect Dadi but they insulted Dadi in public and they used the kingdom of the pandas in this way they did so many atrocities and they had sent P to Exile for 13 years they were in the forest and after 13 years when they came back Duran said I cannot return the kingdom Krishna came to negotiate Krishna ran all the peaceful negotiations still duryan was so obstinate so greedy so selfish and so arrogant that he said that I cannot give even that much land that can be accommodated under the tip of a needle so to that degree he was selfish was so greedy for so inevitably there was so Mahar enumerates all this atrocities and how Krishna protected them through this atrocities prayers she says so it was Krishna who is always protecting all these pandas from all these calamities duryan is committing so many atrocities the PNA come and support and help in various ways so this is the background where the pandas and kavas actually all of them are kavas only but the always considers his own 100 senses us and he separates the P the five pandas and the 100 S ofra they all have assembled on the battlefield with so many of their supporters several so now this is the context of the war so bhagat Gita begins with D's inquiry to sanay so war is happening Andra was the king as king he supposed to participate in the war but because he was blind he did not participate in the he was sitting in the palace but he wants updates about the war so he has a minister named Sanaya and Sanjaya is sitting next totra and narrating what's happening on the battlefield of how do s know Sanaya is blessed by vasad his Guru with the ability to Envision what's happening on the battle so Sanaya is visualizing what's happening on the battlefield he's able to see and he's able to narrate everything to dtra Andra is hearing his whole whole conversation between Krishna and Arjuna and all the things that are happening on the battlefield that's how bhagat begins so that's the beginning of the first chapter in the first chapter there are five main topics so what I would do is divide this this chapter into multiple sections and subsections so that as we are going in our West study we don't get lost we need to understand where are we so if you have book this is see page number 24 you see there is this whole chart here so you can see the chapter is divided into five sections okay so these five sections we are going to discuss today we will discuss maybe three or four so first P the question to sanay Second duryodhan Compares uh the armies his army and P's Army so when question sanay what's happening on the battlefield sanay says that duryan went to dronacharya and he began comparing both the ARs okay third section there are some signs of P because everybody starts blowing then fourth AR becomes confused he sees the armies and he becomes confused and beered he becomes overwhelmed with compassion and emotions then finally Arjuna gives four reasons how he why he cannot fight in the war so these are the five major sections in this first chapter so now let's go one by one today I'll Target to cover the first four sections and fifth section we will do tomorrow and at least I will cover three sections if time permits I'll take fourth section today so first section the rra inquired so who will decide to excellent thank you so dhra is asking this question so he's sitting in the batt in the palace and Sanaya is speaking to him and dhra ask so where did the battle happen so all the armies of pandas and duryodhan they have assembled at a holy place called kurra kurra is known to be a great holy place since some time even deas are also worshiped there and people who are like deas also perform their worship there so this kurra the place where the War was happening is considered dakra dakra means a holy place chra means a place Dharma means holy means virtuousness rightousness so it's a holy place it's a place of pilg s means all the armies have assembled there s means they have assembled with what mentality you you means means they are very eager to fight with a great eagerness and enthusiasm to fight with each other for the kingdom they so and who have assembled there Maha means my own sons drra has separated out his separated the pandas out of his sons m myund son headed by duryodhana and P Panda means the sons of P so after my sons and Pand Sons assembled on the battlefield with great eagerness to fightan oh San what did they do what kind of question is this what did they do so somebody sits for lunch plate is stepped in front of you one by one all items are being served okay rice chapati Sai Dal sweet topper pickle whatever all are served so now it's like asking a person okay all people have assembled in the dining hall to take food take their meals take their lunch and plates are supplied to them and 10 nice heart items are served to them after assembling in the dining hall to eat and sitting in front of the plates what did they do what will they they will eat isn't it the question seems redundant but it's not written right so's question is very clever very intelligent it has very very deep meaning so what is the deep meaning here he's asking a simple question after assembling there the battlefield what did they do they fight naturally but see was very greedy for the kingdom First Quality of the thr which which is depicted in this when he is greedy for the kingdom his desires that his King the kingdom of hastinapur should come to his own Sons not pus he's very greedy second he's doubtful although he had desire for the kingdom he had doubts whether he will get the kingdom or whether his sons will get the kingdom or not because pandu sons are very glorious and virtuous and dhic his own sons are very evil minded people right so also knows even Dutra also knows what is Dharma and what is adharma but his weakness is that he cannot follow although he knows what is D and what is adharma he is consciously following adharma and consciously not following that is his weakness sometimes we know what is right what is wrong what is good what is bad what is auspicious what is anicius but somehow our weaknesses in the heart will instigate us to choose the wrong thing although we know what is right that's what is so a little portion ofra is there in in an average living beings mind also right so when we are hearing about the demra Duran should not say oh they will I'm good person those qualities may be there in an average human being not everybody but there there so dtra is consciously aware that his sons are very very evil minded and what they do is AD so he was doubtful whether they will win or not second he is fearful what was the fear here the was fearing that maybe my sons will compromise because the war is happening at a holy place called Kur isn't it so by the influence of this holy place you he was thinking that maybe my sons will compromise in the war they may think that oh let us not be greedy for the kingdom let us give the rightful share of the Kingdom to the pandas they may think like that and the never wanted that he was fearful that his sons would confidence Okay so but his sons will never compromise they are more evil minded than him okay he was fearful because when you are in a holy place here in a temple don't feel like uh doing some sinful activity accept it so when we are in a nice place amongst nice people okay let's not do this let's not speak F language let's not do this m here you kind of behave yourself isn't it so that's the influence of holy that's influence of the vibrations of that pure place so D was feeling that by the influence of this holy place maybe my sons may give up their claim over the kingdom and they may not fight they may give the kingdom to pandas which should not happen we should only get that was his fear then he was hopeful what was his hopeful he was hopeful that let pandas compromise okay my son should not compromise by the influence of the Holy place let pandas become detached they compromise let them compromise let them become detached from the rightful claim of their Kingdom and let them give their Kingdom to my sons right so the this innocent So-Cal innocent question ofra had this deep import he was desirous he was greedy he was doubtful he was fearful and he was hopeful right he was greedy for the kingdom he was doubtful about his son's Victory he was fearful that his son might compromise they was hopeful that P should compromise so and now you see the difference between and kti I said that kunti had only three sons yudish and Arjun and her co-wife madri had two sons sah but after the death of madri punti Maharani being the pure devote of Krishna and who had selfless heart she considered M son as her own son she never discriminated between her three sons and M's two son although she was a helpless widowed woman still she had the big heart she had that non duplicitous heart she had that broad mind to consider her co-wife sons as his own her own Sons on the other hand he seear being so selfish so greedy he could not consider the five sons of pandu as his own SS he always thought instead of thinking them as his sons he was thinking them as enemies instead of protecting them as loving father he wanted to eliminate them he saw them as competitors a threat to his own sons that is the greedy mentality selfish mentality ofra he had 100 Sons why can't he consider that I have one five Sons 100 plus 5 only 5% added but in K's is how much three sons and two that almost double right 80% whatever got added into her into her family but she was able she had no reservations in taking care of her co-wife sons generally brother is considered closer than kwife right but co-wife Sons she could consider as her sons that is her selfless nature that is her devotion so now yes Krishna being the father of religion father of Dharma he wanted to appro aarma through his dear devotees the pandas but why did Krishna kill theas so Krishna knows what was doing what duryan was doing was doing so Krishna has already killed so many people so many adharmic peopleon people so why can't he why didn't he participate in the kurra personally and why did he why did not he personally kill duryan reasonble to hear me is it clear voice is clear so because Krishna wanted to give credit to his devotes even as a child in vavan less than 10 years Krishna killed so many demons he killed [Music] so many and after coming out ofan he killed Kam the greatest Dem he killed K along with his brother he killed he defeated he killed 23 of of Jas 17 times like that he K so many big big like sh in comparison to all these great demons Mystic demons that Krishna had killed duryan was insas was insignificant who isas who is Duran in front of a right so who is shuni who isas who is K very small people in comparison to the demons that Krishna had killed but Krishna did not kill them Krishna did not not personally kill them because he wanted to give credit to his devotees let Arjuna become the hero of the kurra battle that Bea become the hero of kurra battle that Arjuna kill the foremost Warriors like bishma drona K and let let be kill all the 100 sons of duryas and I will just pick Char driver and an adviser consultant right so uh before reading I never knew the names like [Music] arasi so all the demons that Krishna had killed in his childhood we are not so much aware at least I was not aware but we know we all [Music] knew very popular so Krishna although he killed more powerful demons he allowed his devotees to kill more popular demons right so let my gay let my devotees become very popular by killing the popular demons so Krishna wants to give more credit to his devotees than he takes for himself you know samudra Manan samudra Manan episode it was the Supreme Lord Vishnu who has orchestrated entire samudra man the Ching of Milan done by the demig God by the devatas and the demons right but when the right moment of poison uh appeared he called Shiva to drink the poison right so what do vishnu's contribution in samudra Manan not many will know how much he has done but sha drinking poison is very popular so Krishna Vishnu they like to see devotees become very popular and they take pleasure so Krishna takes pleasure in seeing his devotees more glorified himself Krishna just did not take any weapon he took the role of a chariot driver and assisted but actually it was Krishna who is doing everything so Krishna orchestrated this kurra and Krishna being the father of dhma who came to establish Dharma he wants to appro this adarma on the field of Kur in a field a farmer approves weeds isn't it similarly Krishna the father of religion wants to approve the weed like Sons ofra the dhic field of ofra so so these are a few thoughts about the first shoka so we see that Krishna is very expert in organizing this war and guiding the pandas in various ways we alash selfish nature the first now let us enter the second so in the from second 11 we see duryan comparing both the arms okay so let's recite the second shloka so what was the context of the second shoka in the first shokra asked sanay after assembling on the battlefield of kurra what did my son and what did what did the Sons of P do so now sanj has to answer okay he has to explain what's happening on the scene of Battlefield so sanj is speaking Krishna [Music] [Music] very here Sanaya is explaining what's happening on the battlefield so on the battlefield duryodhan went to dronar dronar was the military teacher of both pandas so so duryan did not expect that pandas will gather so much of AR so 13 years they were on the forest they were in the forest they were in Exile but still they had so many supporters they came with so many thousands and thousands of soldiers armies to fight with fight with Duran and part so Duran was a bit shocked and surprised little fearful also after seeing this P Aries so what did he do he went to which a the military teacher so he started speaking these words Raja who is the Raja here duryan Sanaya is describing duryodhan as Raja duryan was not rajar was Raj but Dury is being addressed as not that because he's King but he knows Raj what is Rajan Raj is diplomacy explained that Duran was very clever very expert in Raj in diplomacy in duplicity so he's very diplomatically going in front of dronacharya and he started speaking Duran exhibiting his rajti so he he can see from the next several verses duryodhan's diplomatic Behavior okay so let's see what he says first duryodhan describes the army of the pandas then later duryan will describe the Army me his own Army then he gives a comparison between his Army and the army of P that's what he's going to do in the next seven eight vers so let's recite the Third schloka [Music] [Music] so here duryodhan is speaking to donach he says P oh my a me see look at this Aries and these armies are gathered byas mear see mahim is a very very astonishing Army very great Army I never expected that so many people will come he did not exactly literally say that but he was hiding his fears right so we would have and who has organized this Army who has arranged this Army that isra D is the father of Dadi and so there is a big story not sure how many stories I can speak but you see drar and D Maharaj D is Brahman Maharaj is they both have studied in the same school same GR so later after they passed out of their Gul so they dispersed but at one point dronacharya found himself very poor and he could not even get proper food to eat so he went to dup his friend and asked can you please give some charity for my maintenance we are friends in our G but D Maharaj did not treat properly he kind of insulted long story so D Maharaj was very unhappy and sorry D was unhappy and eventually he trained the pandas he became the guru of the pandavas eventually he trained them and he appointed his disciple Arjuna to go and defeat D Maharaj so Arjuna went and defeated D Maharaj was little humiliated because of this so so earlier I insulted dronar but now he insulted me through his disciple okay he trained a disciple and he has insulted me now I must do something to reply back okay so he conducted a big sacrifice in that sacrifice two personalities came one second lady war and this son of Maharaj he is specifically created to to uh destroy to kill drar okay and toach can you please give me some training in military act okay so now you see and D is aware dronar isar is completely aware that DNA was born just to kill me and although he's supposed to kill still being a brah D has liberally given all the military knowledge to so he a liberal Brahman when somebody comes for Education a qualified person comes for Education he should not deny he should just give that knowledge so he did that so now D duryan is pointing out that see is your your own disciple is very very intelligent person very intelligent so this pandas Army has been arranged by your own disciple and you have liberally given all the military knowledge to but you see he's acting against no respect for Guru he is and pandas also they your disciples but they also did not have respect for so pandas are standing against you pandas are willing to fight against you see see their Disobedience don't have any affection because he knows duryodhan knows that dronar loves pands had very special affection for the pandas and especially his favorite disciple Arjun although there are so many students sometimes teacher may have one favorite student considering the students good qualities right so dronar definitely had affection for the pandavas but duryodhan wanted to invoke the disrespectful invoke anger in donara pointing out the disrespectful attitude of Tas and also he wanted to invoke that anger inara by remembering by reminding his previous enity with he did not say he said he used the word because he was thinking that as soon as I take the name d d will remember his past enity with he'll become Ang then with great anger he will fight and kill theas their Aries right so see this is the nature of they want to use the frailties and shortcomings and impulsive nature of other people for their own purp so dronar and D had some conflict before if I remind him of that that with that anger he will support me right so duryan being a very diplomatic person he wanted to utilize drona's anger towards Maharaj in his favor right so that is the nature of diplomatic people pointed out the mistake ofar he said you have unnecessarily trained this is this is too much so we should not be lenient like this then fourth he says said J M so first he said the prev that dur sorry P Army is headed by arranged by headed course so now he says in this Army there are so many great warriors there are so many great means Heroes right Mah is means Mighty Bowman there are warriors who are equal to and Arjun in in this Army then who are they he gives examples who are those Warriors great warriors who are almost equal to and Arjun yudana and they all maharas so they are great maharas who are equal to be and Arjuna so here duryan is pointing out the greatness of the armies of the pandas right so maharat means a one person one Warrior who can fight with 10,000 archers and this maharat is exper both in weapons and in scriptures both that is a maharat maharat is a person who can fight with 10,000 Warriors at a time and higher than ma Mahar is atata AATA is one who fights with unlimited troops at least 60,000 troops okay that is and rata is one who fights with only one opponent okay and there is something called means he can do less than that not even one opponent soti Mahari so these are different so adata is the topmost Arjuna bishma there so now here duryan says that there are so many maharas the army of then fifth [Music] so in the fifth he's giving few more names all means best amongst men so kings are sometimes called so these are various names of some others then aradana [Music] there are other Warriors like yud vant UT they are all great great powerful warriors v v means one who has great power sohra who is sadra the son of subadra and who are Dr me sons of had five Sons After the War as has killed five Sons these are also great Mahar so in this way up to sixa from the third to six this duryan described the armies of pandas okay next later Duan started describing his own Aries okay now the was little lost in describing the armies of pandas he was kind of expressing his fears but diplomatically he was also cover in his fears no no no our arm is also good okay their arm is definitely great but our arm is also equally great or even greater than theiry so he starts describing his own armies at this moment okay this so in the seventh he says me my Army is also not less right I also have a great okay especially means one who is twice born because a brah is called because he also has some second initiation ser so here refers to a brah refers to the best of brahmanas who is our dronar right so oh great brah dronar please understand that my Army is also no less in my Army also there are powerful great leaders are there in my Army my the leaders of my armies are also very powerful [Music] for your information means for your information may I introduce my Army members to you also right I'm speaking to you okay so who will decide this are there can't hear you okay [Music] [Music] now further diplomacy of duryan we can see here ban now he has to enumerate the great warriors on his side who are they number one ban means yourself you my dear Guru you so now he had some dilemma here dur in on his side there are so many warriors like bishma Kar J many other people but whose name he should take first obviously he cannot take other people's names but two people are actually competing who are the bishma and HMA is very powerful very experienced and oldest Warrior there and drona is personally his Guru so whose name should he take first so duryan was in D then he he was very clever so you know what he did if I if I take the name of drona first then bishma will not mind if I take the name of bishma first then D will be insulted why because bishma was AA D was a Brahman so I should give first respect to brah Andria bishma wouldn't mind so let me speak the name of name of bishma sorry Dr first that's why he said ban means yourself ban then next he said Bish and he's also speaking about k k is definitely a great warrior no doubt about it but Kar had some issue with bishma so Kara and bishma cannot go well with each other okay a is right that Kara felt that I am a great warrior but and I have the ability to lead this whole Army but I will fight and all credit goes to the boss bishma is appointed as the boss he's the commander okay so he will get all the credit if I fight so till bishma I will not come in the so Kaa said like this and he did not come but anyways k is also a great warrior and duryan said K is also there is also relative of bishma relative of drar that's he his name Ash asatama is the son of drar then now there are so many great warriors in this but who the brother of duryan is not a great warrior why did duryan take the name vikara here because vikara is one person who has supported Dr so from all the members on the side of duryan vikar spoke something in favor of Dadi when was being insulted by Dury so duryodhan being diplomatic he he wanted to enumerate he wanted to mention the name of vikara also along with the list of great warriors so that wouldn't take the side of pandas now he wouldn't support them now so let him also be with me many other people like they're always victorious in Battlefield right then Sam the word Sam refers to the fact that all these people are very victorious in the battle so basically duryodhan has compared the armies of pandavas and his own s so Arjun V these are great warriors on P and bishma the side of duryan so he just compared both that's what he did the last so now he this duryodhan is especially fearful of Bea so now he says that my Army is led by bishma and P arm is L bya Bea is less experienced in general but he has to take the name of Bea several times because Bea has taken three WS okay first W of beima was he was furious with dtra Sons he said I will kill all the hundred Sons ofra it's my w to kill all the 100 people second W he took I will break the th of duryan because this duryodhan cultureless duryodhan he said that dropadi you come and sit on my th okay so come and sit on my lap you are fit for my enjoyment so he said like very insulting words chased woman so then Bea became very Furious he said you are showing your thigh and asking D to come and sit on your thigh I will break your thigh duryan so that's why he he broke the thigh of duryan at the end of the that is the second third was it was dasas who touched the hair of dropadi the Sanctified Pure Hair of dropadi and dragged her into the assembly so Bea took a W that I will tear open the chest of dasas and and just pull out the heart of dasas and drink his blood that was his W okay so he took three WS one he wanted to kill all the 100 Sons ofra second he wanted to break the thigh of duryan then he wanted to break the chest ofas so that's why we our duryan is very fearful of especially and further he says the [Music] [Music] [Music] apart from these names that I had just mentioned there are many other great warriors and important line here for my sake they are all willing to give up their life okay so basically dur was indirectly predicting their death because these people have taken my they going to die they to give up their lives they are expert experts in using so many Shas so many weapons and they very experts in in war this way uh he he glorified his own Army then in the 10th he say say that my Army is led by bishma who is an experienced General and Panda's Army is led by BMA who is a less experienced General so I'm in a better position that's what he says we reced this [Music] protected bishma so immeasurable so I have unlimited strength I have the most experience in general it's it's immeasurable my strength is immeasurable then but Bea the army of pavas protected Bea is not very great it is measurable mean it's limited it's not so great right so this is and immeasurable and limited but the word apam andam have other meanings also means sufficient a means insufficient so the implication here is although my Army is protected directly by bishma it is insufficient to gain victory over p and although P's arm is protected by Bea is less experienced General it is sufficient to defe it's an indirect implication here have these okay so next nextn [Music] [Music] so now he glorified bishma so much isn't it so bishma is a very experienced General this and that so he gave so much of importance to bishma dur and actually when duryan came to dronacharya bishma was there and many other Chief Warriors also have assembled there together okay our leader duryan is making some announcements having some discussion just before the war so something important is happening all of them have gathered there now in this big Gathering of Warriors duryan was glorifying bishma so much then he felt my God I glorify bishma so much what will happen to the emotions of other people then immediately he just composed himself and diplomatically he said that Al the bishma he is protected he protecting all our armies bishma still you people should protect bishma although bishma is very experienced General he's very old okay so he may be engrossed in fighting so he may not notice the enemies coming from other directions so you should also protect bishma so bishma is protecting you you should also protect bishma so in this way he kind of balanced by giving some importance to other people also right all of you should protect Bea bishma bishma so that's the second section in the first section we have searra asked the question to S the second section we have seen duryan went toara and compared both the armies pandas Army and his army he spoke the chief Warriors in pandas Army and he spoke about the chief Warriors his side and he made a comparison okay so next third section uh the Warriors started blowing conscience so blowing consell is an indication that war is about to begin okay so when will blow a cons before the right and Ari worship of Lord Vish worship of Lord Krishna is about to begin you blow a cons right so when everybody is blowing cons they beginning worship of the Supreme right so Krishna descended on this planet for three reasons in the fourth chapter we'll discuss that came to protect devotees good people and Krishna came to punish misre and Krishna came to establish is so Krishna will personally establish Dharma by killing the Mis creates and sometimes Krishna engages his devotees also to do that so far Krishna established personally now Krishna is a engaging the pandas to establish Dharma Krishna is engaging the pandas to kill the miscreant and protect innocent people so Krishna also protects Dharma through his devotes so now when conscience are being blown on the battlefield everybody is beginning to worship Krishna who is going to establish DH and these are signs of victory of the pandas because D is on the side of pandas not on the coras okay so you will decide we can't hear you so when bishma sorry duryan spoke so many words in front of bishma Anda then bishma wanted to encourage his grandson to enourage and make him [Music] happyish who Kuru is eldest of all the K Dynasty he started blowing his Sim L he Wasing right simam so he started blowing his conscience okay then then other people also started playing musical instruments and blowing their conscience [Music] [Music] [Music] Shas andies different kinds of musical instruments so all these different kinds of musical instruments were sounded just to Mark the beginning of this Great War right and sound the combined sound of all these instruments was so tumultous that everybody could hear this and understood that this is the maing of the this is the beginning of the war so bishma his cons and others also B their consci at this moment Sanjay is describing the entrance of Krishna and very beautiful shloka who has not reced here at that moment Lord Krishna and Arjuna came on a great Chariot which is driven by white [Music] horses beautiful Chariot which was actually given by agid so they have come The Chariot mad so who has come there madav and P P refers to Arjuna here one of the pandas so madav means the husband of goddess of Fortune why Krishna is considered madava is called as madava here Krishna has so many names in different context different names are used here Krishna is called madava mainly because Krishna is the husband of goddess of Arun because Krishna is on the side of Arjuna lakmi is also on the side of Arjun the goddess of Fortune is also there on the side of Arjun okay so Krishna Arjuna is accompanied by the Supreme Lord his eternal conser Krishna and Lakshmi and on top of it the Lord's dear devote Arjuna is also and his flag so all signs of Victory okay blowing of conscience also so these are sh there are so many shanas no shanka so far is described as Divya Divine cons but what Krishna isow blowing is divine conscience what Arjuna is blowing is divine conscience okay so what are this conscience so why Krishna is playing the role of a Chari driver here I said it before Krishna wanted to give more credit to his devotees than he takes for himself and also Krishna is BSA he's very very affectionate towards his devotees so when Krishna is personally driving The Chariot of his dear devote Arjuna his affection for his devotees is being displayed here right So This is Love sometimes the father will become a horse and the child will sit on the father's B and ride the horse and father is Happy father doesn't get offended hey I should I should drive you or what I should become your chariot I should become your car or I should become your horse no father doesn't get offended father is very happy to drive the child This is Love similarly Krishna also doesn't feel bad he doesn't feel uncomfortable to drive the Chariot of his own devote okayish means fatherly affection loving affection so what are the names of the conscience that are played by all these Warriors we will see this he the master of his [Music] is so is Arjun he's called Han because he conquers wealth so his cons is named so is called because he eats so much and he also performs cul tasks so his cons is with the name p so he has a great cons called P these are the names of the conscience so Krishna is called rishika in this context because Krishna is the owner of all senses master of all senses means senses means master of Senses Krishna is the master of all senses because he directs the senses of all living beings Krishna is called rishika here because he is going to direct the senses of Arjuna very soon Arjuna is going to give up his determination to fight he will become confused his mind and senses become totally bewildered is Krishna who is going to train him nicely is's going to put him on the right path that's why he's called so next yeah [Music] here refers to mahaj Maharaj has this called so these are the names of conscious okay next m okay thank you so now there are many other people who have blown their conscious who are they Kashi so so all these great personalities also started growing their conscious so sanay informed dtra very tactfully by the words shank although several great warriors have blown their conscience amongst all these consci only the consci of Arjun and Krishna are considered the so then what happened when Arjuna and Krishna and pandas blew their conscience what happened to the kavas let us see that's the last slok of for today okay so yes so when Krishna pandas and people on their side their conss the hearts of the 100 son of and their supporters got shatter so these conscience were so aorus and they were vibrating in NAA and PR na is skyi in prv's Earth so when these conss were being blown the hearts of kurus got completely shattered but when kurus are blowing their conscience nothing happened to pandas because krna is there on that side okay so even the blowing of conscience also is on the side of pandas it's considered very powerful and it indicated their Victory also so this whole section of blowing of conscience is a sign of pandas Victory so we have completed 19 shlokas today so tomorrow because we have spent some time in the introduction also so tomorrow we will cover the remaining portion of this chapter tomorrow we will see how Krishna takes Arjun in the middle of both the armies and he observes the armies his relatives are there in the armies and Arjuna becomes overwhelmed with compassion he gives four reasons why he cannot fight so today is just a very very simp easy portion of bhag Gita it's easy to understand this very easily later portion also is little easy from second chapter onwards we find thick and deep philosophy so that requires Great attention to understand with this we will conclude today's session thank you very much for your wonderful participation and recation of so many shlokas especially children thank you very much sh bhagat 532 any questions or [Music] comments you have questions you can raise your hand those who have raised their hands recitation of slokas no morea recitation today you can lower Your [Music] Head har Krishna Brau thank thank you for today's session um so we see duryodhana's diplomacy and um and sometimes the Warriors may also get involved in such kind of diplomacies primarily to um to uh react and subdue the the the opponents and my question is what should be the principle that a devor should act in such kind of um I maybe I would say the word you know we can use diplomacy here because you know sometimes we have to act in that way so what should be the principle uh when a devote is engaging in such kind of an act is a very intelligent thoughtful question thank you for asking that so devotees are generally not duplicitous or diplomatic however there may be some circumstance where devote also have to show some diplomacy diplomacy used in Krishna service is also a form of devotional service is also form of there's a statement like that in so for example there is a person so he had to use some diplomacy to escape from imprisonment so that he can go and take shelter dedicate his life for service so sometimes it may be necessary to use little diplomacy but it should not become a second necessary to use some diplomacy for a higher purpose that one should not use it allings a good purpose unavoidable for example mother has to put some medicine in the mouth of the child mother cannot be straightforward sometimes he has to and say that it's a chocolate it is some sweet it is very nice and he has to speak a lot of things to advertise the advertise the medicine to occasional diplomacy for a good purpose is yes Pro yeah you har Krishna pru G I had the question that if he would do adarma he will need to get punishment so then knowing it why did he choose AA yes that's the whole Saga a living this cigarette smoking is dous are people knowingly drinking is inous to people do it knowingly so now having knowledge about what is right and what is wrong is is possible for many people but having the right determination to apply the right thing and follow the right thing requ some require some some kind of determination so we need to be determined to be on the right PA we need to have some purity of our intent and our thought to follow Dharma so just discriminating between Dharma and an average person can do to some there are very ignorant people who cannot even understand what is what is they very unfortunate but there are quite a few people who can understand what is D and what is AA but they consciously choose ad or do the wrong thing when there is no determination in the heart there's there's no in the heart so you need to cultivate that Andra coming to sparra is saying that Sakura came and advised please don't do like this you are a Raja you are supposed to take care of all your PR equal RA mean citizens Raj means king the king is supposed to treat all the citizens equally but you are not even treating your own sons and your brother Sons equally so you're are not acting like a proper Raja so you please behavior and you know what said I this I know what I'm but now I have become a puppet in the hands of my own love and affection for myself and things are set into motion by Destiny it's all destiny that I am that's happening that's the wrong thing in's case Destiny is not our decision Destiny is the result of our decision now we have an independence we have some free will to make a choice so we make we make conscious choices and the result of our choice result of our decision is distin but is considering that his decision itself is distin I have become like this because of distin he is supposed to control Dury's bad behavior but he did not control instead he supported sometimes we consciously also do some mistakes that's that's okayish I have two questions so the first one is uh bhagat Gita is being such a important book why why did the uh why it is started with with the drra Watcher so that is the one first question andish is being eldest one so the importance in the first chapter in this 19th slokas the importance for the udra is is know not after arjas so why it is like so one thing isra is beginning firsta is coming from bashra but that's just acting as a like like a beginning of a great discussion okay so bhagat Gita krishna's teachings begin from second chapter especially from 11 he spoke few words before also but from L his teachings begin why this this whole background is needed for us to appreciate so we can appreciate krishna's teachings from second chapter provided we can understand arj's emotions in the first chapter so we can come to the whole point of discussion of arjuna's emotions provided we have San narrating this whole thing to so Al is his which is beginning BH but it is just taking us slowly to Arjun krishna's teachings that that's the way it is presented we accept it secondly Maharaj why he is not as prominent as Arjuna in this case now you ask this question but to add to your question have other points also why Krishna did not drive The Chariot of mAh by only Arjun Krishna did not speak arj and Krishna so much of importance to arj why sitting on the throne after winning of the whole War why arj did not see okay so now Krishna has different kinds of different flavors of perfection towards different all five P are great devotes of Krishna he loves all of them Arjun sorry and are Elder to kishna kishna is the oldest but but in this manifest past time Vish Anda are Elder to Krishna nakul and sah are younger kishna Arjun isal equal age so when Krishna meets the pandas he offers to and he gives blessings to and he Embraces he hugs arj because he's equal right so that's the intimacy that you can have with equals friends so of course Krishna and very friends kishna loves arj so much is too much on the side of Dharma he is too angry but has a balance right he little smart has special AFF and one important thing that we need to observe here is although Krishna chose to become arjun's driver and he spoke Arjuna none of the other four pandas compete with Arjun they did not envy Arjuna they did not have any jealousy um har Krishna pru Can Am I audible hello yes M you're audible okay pru I my question might be a little stupid but I just want to understand one thing that people of that era were very educated they were highly educated in fact so in the schloka 10 when you were explaining how come duryodhan uses the word aapam instead of param like what I have understood always perap means it is sufficient whereas AAP means which is is not sufficient or which is lesser than the amount needed but here the words are used in a different meaning altoe so is there some deeper meaning to it some or duryan used it with some purpose that one actually some Sanskrit words have multiple meanings okay and the Sanskrit words used in different context would mean different things I also mentioned in the class so Froman side was meable immeasurable yes my is IM is measurable and limited their army my Army is immeasurable correct but there is also some kind of Inner Fear looks like sufficient of fear there's an expression of confidence right there is both so efficient immeasurable also okay things are going on in his mind okay probably thank you har [Music] Krishna har Krishna pru uh similarly on the 19th schloka where my understanding is and please correct me if I'm wrong my understanding is that it's all sanj's narration after from the second SLO onwards right and he's narrating it to drash yes so again from the if I read it soash it says like sons of right so now when it comes like that he's so sanj is speaking to drash he's not saying your son he's saying drash it looks like very odd so how to understand that narrating defitely about that secondly he can directly say he can even say seems hard as you said it may seem hard but nothing wrong in it unless specifically says for example us the word using specific explan thank you [Music] Krishna pru here your while comparing bisha with that beima actually sadip was the that DNA that is confusion uh see helped in arranging the whole Waring the whole arabis because he's expert in military so there are different formations in which the Army can be arranged so he helped in Arrangement but okay kishna thank you [Music] [Music] harna so basic stupid question so so Sanaya is narrating the happenings in the war as a life or is he narrating it um okay because it starts with ends with what did they do um so is that something that Sanaya is narrating uh the things that is happening directly live as a war or is it something that he's saying that okay it has already happened like that it has happened some says that he came in the middle of the and okay thank you in the verse number eight we discussed regarding what are the who are the particular personalities who are been mentioned by duryodhana in particular like first then Vish then K is there any reason why he mentioned name name and who is so many warriors are there we are not sure what is the background some backgrounds many specific reason say why person name is's name is there anation Krishna pru um it was like Arjuna heard bhagat Gita from Krishna and the same thing heard D also right so when Arjuna got Enlightenment why didn't he get the same Enlightenment only the speaker changes right say in a class teacher is giving a class to same class same not everybody will understand the same so understanding not only depends on the teaching understanding also depends on the students conscious students ability to assimilate Al the same teachings are given same is shown also kishna kishna kishna but did not have the D of Krishna did not have a very ening or uplifting effect on as depend on the yes pru g hi har Krishna har Krishna please accept my humble abenes uh PR I have two questions one is uh what are the important locers for memorization for today's session and uh another thing is that we posted all the okay okay okay and another thing is that what should be our mood while doing this either B what should we keep in our mind while proceeding into the further depth of the knowledge yeah okay also love for Krishna scholarship is a by product love forish character is M yeah okay thank you thank you questions here take this questions tomorrow or you can me tomorrow I end early 515 I will end last minutes
