0:00 What is the single biggest financial 0:02 decision you make in your life? 0:05 >> Kind of a hot take here, but I think 0:08 it's who your spouse is. We talk a lot 0:11 about saving and budgeting and spending 0:13 and investing, 0:14 but 0:15 your spouse is the person that you are 0:18 going to spend the vast majority of your 0:21 life, hopefully, with. 0:23 Why would you not make sure that the two 0:26 of you are on the same financial page? 0:28 It is crazy to me because the top two 0:30 reasons why couples fight, sex and 0:33 money. 0:35 What if I told you if you had the 0:37 conversation early, if you opened up a 0:39 blank slate, if you opened the doorway, 0:42 if you 0:43 didn't argue, but instead sat down and 0:45 laid it all bare and figured out a plan 0:46 forward together, you could avoid 50% of 0:49 those really hot button topics? 0:52 Wouldn't you naturally assume it would 0:53 make your relationship stronger? You 0:55 would fight less and just be happier. 0:56 Something that I have seen in both 0:58 genders, but sometimes, you know, often 1:01 from women, is that they are looking for 1:03 traits in a partner that they do not 1:05 personally possess. 1:07 And that really bothers me. 1:09 >> What do you mean? 1:09 >> I need to date a man who makes over half 1:11 a million dollars. Do you make over half 1:13 a million dollars? I need a man who's 1:15 very generous and willing to buy me 1:17 gifts. Are you a generous person? Do you 1:19 buy the people in your life gifts? 1:21 We often times 1:24 expect the world, but aren't willing to 1:26 give it ourselves. And so I just 1:28 encourage anybody, especially with the 1:29 partners, like 1:31 they don't necessarily need to match 1:32 your income, but you need to match each 1:34 other's effort. 1:35 And if you don't, it's not going to 1:38 work. In terms of effort, it can look 1:40 very different, though. It could be one 1:43 person being the breadwinner and the 1:44 other person taking care of the home. It 1:46 could be both people going out and 1:48 working and splitting the household 1:49 unpaid labor, but 1:51 you have to be very clear about what 1:55 the defined roles in your relationship 1:57 are. 1:58 >> I love that you come down to roles and 1:59 values because roles and values come 2:02 down to conversations, knowing yourself, 2:05 and skills you can build. 2:06 Not gender assignment. 2:08 >> No, never. 2:09 >> That gives you control. 2:10 >> Mhm. 2:10 >> And really define what do you want and 2:12 what do you value in life, and [music] 2:14 does this person give you that? And if 2:16 they don't, run out of here, but if they 2:18 do, 2:19 maybe it isn't the financial thing. 2:22 Maybe it's something money can't [music] 2:23 buy.
