Community node
YouTube transcripts in n8n
The GetYouTubeTranscript community node adds eight YouTube actions to n8n, from transcripts and search to channel and playlist listings. It also works as a tool for n8n's AI Agent, so the model can fetch a transcript when it needs one.
Set it up
- 1
Install the node
In self-hosted n8n, go to Settings, then Community Nodes, click Install a community node, and enter:
n8n-nodes-getyoutubetranscript - 2
Create the credential
Create a key on the developers page (100 free credits, no card) and paste it into a new GetYouTubeTranscript API credential. n8n tests it when you save.
- 3
Add it to a workflow
Add the GetYouTubeTranscript node, pick an action such as Get Transcript, and map a video URL from a previous step.
Workflows to build
- Summarize a video: Get Transcript, then an OpenAI or Anthropic node, then Slack or email.
- Watch a channel: Get Channel Latest Videos on a schedule, then transcribe only new uploads.
- Let an AI Agent decide: connect the node as a tool and ask the agent about any video.
Good to know
- Actions: Get Transcript, Search YouTube, Resolve Channel, Get Channel Latest Videos, Search Channel Videos, List Channel Videos, List Playlist Videos and Get Credits (free).
- Self-hosted without the UI? npm install n8n-nodes-getyoutubetranscript in your n8n custom folder.

Questions about n8n
Why does YouTube block my n8n workflow?
Direct requests from a server are often blocked by YouTube. The node calls the GetYouTubeTranscript API, which fetches captions on its own servers.
Does it work on n8n Cloud?
n8n Cloud only installs community nodes that n8n has verified. Until this node is verified, use n8n's built-in HTTP Request node with the same API key on Cloud; the workflow guide below shows the settings.
What does it cost?
Each transcript, search or channel page uses one credit from your account, and failed requests are not charged. New accounts get 100 free credits, no card, and paid plans add more credits each month.
