Export format

YouTube transcript to CSV

Export a YouTube transcript as a CSV with one row per caption line: start seconds, end seconds, a readable timestamp and the text. Open it in Excel or Google Sheets, or load it into pandas.

How it works

  1. Paste a YouTube video link or ID.
  2. Preview the rows.
  3. Download the .csv file and open it in your spreadsheet or notebook.

What the CSV export looks like

Real output for “Me at the zoo”, the first video on YouTube, produced by the same code as the tool above.

start_seconds,end_seconds,start,text
1.2,3.36,0:01,"All right, so here we are, in front of the elephants"
5.318,7.974,0:05,the cool thing about these guys is that they have really...
7.974,12.616,0:07,really really long trunks
12.616,14.367,0:12,and that's cool
14.421,15.733,0:14,(baaaaaaaaaaahhh!!)
16.881,18.881,0:16,and that's pretty much all there is to say

Who it's for

  • Researchers coding or tagging what was said
  • Analysts counting topics over time
  • Anyone filtering a long transcript by keyword

Need this for many videos?

Pull a playlist's transcripts with the playlist tool, or get the same data from code with the transcript API and MCP server.

YouTube transcript to CSV: questions

What columns does the CSV have?

start_seconds, end_seconds, start (as m:ss) and text. Text with commas or quotes is quoted correctly, so it opens cleanly in Excel and Google Sheets.

What if a video has no captions?

The tool can only export captions YouTube already has, creator-written or auto-generated. Videos with captions turned off have nothing to export, and the tool tells you so.

Can I export a whole playlist or channel?

This page exports one video at a time. For a playlist, the playlist tool pulls transcripts for its videos; for whole channels or recurring exports, the API and MCP server return the same data for every video.
