SRT to TXT converter
Upload or paste an .srt file and get the words only: cue numbers and timestamps removed, broken lines joined, and paragraphs started at natural pauses.
The converted file appears here. How to convert SRT to plain text
- Click Upload file and pick your .srt file, or paste its contents into the box.
- The plain text version appears straight away. The tool also reads SRT, VTT and SBV, so any of them works as input.
- Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.
Example
The captions of “Me at the zoo”, the first video on YouTube, converted by the same code as the tool above.

SRT to TXT converter: questions
Are the timestamps removed?
Yes. Cue numbers, timings and formatting tags are stripped. A pause of more than 3 seconds starts a new paragraph.
What about repeated lines in auto-generated captions?
Auto captions often repeat the previous line while it scrolls. Consecutive duplicate lines are kept only once.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. Files up to 5 MB work.
Can I get subtitles straight from a YouTube video?
Yes. Paste the video link into our YouTube to SRT or YouTube to VTT tool and download the captions without needing a file first.
